Not as yet, ours will hopefully be on its way soon. We are well behind the US for distribution. As soon as ours arrives we will be testing it out and doing a tutorial course on it.

I have continued to receive and error message when I try to load a svg file into workspace. I will use Inkscape to create a svg. This avoids the pixelated edge. The error message is no objects could be imported. (E11005). Other svgs that I have downloaded give the same message. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! I do not have problems with the svg files I received from you!

I can only assume that there is something wrong with the SVG file. When it comes to saving SVG’s there are often different options you can select so I am wondering if it is an option somewhere that is causing the issue.

We personally don’t sell or have free SVG’s. We only work with FCM files which is the format recognized by the ScanNCut, so anything we have would automatically work when you import it into Canvas Workspace.

If you like, you can always email us an example SVG file you have and I can test it out to see what the problem might be. You can email us at contact @ alandacraft.com

In this post we show how fine it can cut https://www.alandacraft.com/2014/10/04/brother-scan-n-cut-how-fine-can-it-cut/. It depends on how detailed you are looking for. It is a home hobby machine so it can have a problem with some patterns. But generally it does very well. Here is a link to some cutting files that also shows the sort of detail it can cut https://www.alandaonline.com/product/3-butterflies-brother-scanncut-cutting-files/

So I looked at your article about “is the upgrade worth it” and then at the bottom of the page I had an option to sign up for newsletter and receive a bunch of scan and cut files direct to my inbox. I have verified my email address back to your website and since then…. now NOTHING NOTHING at all. is this yet another way to collect email addresses for spam marketing??
Hope not! where are my free files please?

I assume you mean a word that is welded? If so, then you can try turning it on a diagonal to make it fit or you can use the longer 24″ mat and turn the word sideways to fit.

I was just wondering on the scanNcut dx 1200 do you have to change any settings for the rhinestones when cutting out with the auto blade.

We haven’t as yet had a play with the Rhinestone Kit. We have one but it is all still neatly packed away. But I would think that you would probably just want to do a test cut to ensure that the auto blade cuts correctly. Apart from that, I’m not sure there would be anything specific you would need to change but as I said, we haven’t used it yet so take that with a grain of salt.

The actual colour that shows up on the screen is actually irrelevant when it comes to scanning. Although, technically it should be displaying the colours as they are so not sure why it is doing that for you.

The ultimate goal with scanning is that you want to create a cutting file, so as long as it sees the lines in the scanned image so that it can cut them, that is all that matters.

I’m not entirely sure whether they are still selling the 600. You would probably have to contact Brother directly on that one. In terms of the mats, there are two versions. Ones for the older machines and ones for the DX machine. They look very similar in packaging so you have to be careful when buying. You DON’T want to buy the ones that say ScanNCut DX on the packaging.

Hi. I’m really not clued up about this type of thing, so my question might sound stupid – can I use this machine to cut out folding boxes? Those ones made from cardboard. And what about the scoring for the fold lines? If I I can, what is the thickest board I can use, and what is the size of the biggest thing it can process.

      June 29, 2020 at 11:17 am

Yes, definitely. As long as you have a cutting file template that will cut the shape, you can create gift boxes etc. We sell a pack on our website (link below), but you could potentially scan a template that you find and make your own cutting files. You can’t use thick cardboard but a standard cardstock that you would find at a craft store will work. Maximum thickness is 1.5mm. The mats measure 12″ x 12″ and 12″ x 24″ so as long as the template fits within that, it will cut.

I didn’t see a tutorial for getting the machine to cut the inside of a design before it cuts the outside. When it cuts the outside first, sometimes it will move when it’s trying to cut the details on my leather.

This will depend on the cutting file for starters and how it is set up. But you can go into Canvas Workspace into the LAYERS section and change the order of the files.

If you have a Disney machine then I assume your machine is a DX model. If so, just leave the settings on auto. It should cut the fabric perfectly for you.

When you say ‘neat’ do you mean that the blade is cutting roughly? Or are you trying to create a border edge around the image? If it’s the first, then changing the blade will do the trick. If it’s the second, then try realigning the machine. There is an option in the Settings to do this. Look for the Scanning/Cutting Postition Adjustment option in your Settings to do this.

These tutorials are going to be an amazing resource thank you! I got my SDX1000 this week and I primarily want to cut 35mm circles out of a print – but the catch is they have to line up EXACTLY. 1. So I have imported the Jpeg file and drew my circles on top in the right position. This didn’t work. 2. I scanned in the printed version into ‘direct cut’ and then drew my circles again (but did a test on cheap a4 paper) and this didn’t line up with the print. I’m now considering calibrating the machine but have no 12×12 paper…. Grrr! So what can I do to ensure that the circle cuts are exactly of the print – if they are 1mm off it wont work for my project. I cant find a tutorial anywhere on this. Thanks in advance…..

You will need to give the calibration procedure a go first before trying anything else. At least you will be able to rule that out if that is the issue. Even so, I have found that these machines don’t always line up perfectly. It is what it is I guess, but I think it is something Brother needs to look at.

Not sure if I am answering this correctly based on your question but just let me know if I’m not. As far as I know, Canvas Workspace doesn’t allow you to create multi-line words. In other words, when you enter a word you can’t press the RETURN key to get to the next line. So the only thing you can do is click the TEXT button and type your first line and then click the TEXT tool again and type in the second line and so on. Then you need to use the alignment tools to align them to the left or centre depending on your preference.
