Note from Alanda Craft: Oh wow, doesn’t BJ’s sampler quilt look just awesome. I love how she has quilted each of the squares in a different pattern and the black sashing just makes the colours pop. this is a great way to use up your sampler squares. Nothing need go to waste when you quilt. Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt with us BJ, your granddaughter is a lucky girl. Now you will have to make quilts for the other girls.
Making a sampler quilt is a great way of using up your quilting scraps. You can see in BJ’s quilt how she has used up a variety of different colours but they all go together beautifully. BJ’s quilting has really made a simple quilt into something spectacular.
BJ has created each block separately using the quilt-as-you-go method of quilting. This is an excellent way for a beginner to learn the quilting technique as you can basically practice on each square. If one quilting block doesn’t work out, you haven’t ruined the whole quilt. You can just discard that block, pick up another and start again.
You an use our Reversible Quilt with Sashing Tutorial as a guide to help you create something similar. We didn’t get as fancy as BJ with our quilting but as a beginner you might want to keep it simple until you get a hang of creating some prettier designs.
Quilt as you go sampler for one of my granddaughters. Thanks for the tips!
